Union County Freeholder Chairman Mohamed S. Jalloh, Vice Chairman Bruce H. Bergen and Freeholders Vernell Wright, Bette Jane Kowalski and Alexander Mirabella present Union Free Public Library Director Karen OMalley, Board President Cecilia Wisniewski and Board Vice-President Sally Straus with a 2015 Union County Library Grant award. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders presented 2015 Union County Library Grant awards to 20 public libraries in Union County for childrens programming and materials.

Torrential rain buckles Route 22 morning commute a mess

Commuters could still face some challenges on Route 22 following a rain-soaked afternoon commute that flooded out the road. Meteorologist Dan Zarrow says 4 to 5 inches of rain fell Wednesday afternoon in the Scotch Plains-Plainsfield area in western Union County in a short period of time, creating instant lakes on Route 22 as the jersey barrier acted as a dam.

Anyone interested in donating backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, scotch tape, highlighters, markers, crayons, and glue sticks may bring them to the New Providence public library.

Sunday was all about peaches at the Summit Farmers Market

Greg Shaffer, first place, who prepared Peach Cobbler Pies, Joanne Butler, second place, who created a peach tart, and Jozi Coates, third place, who made a peach cake. As a part of the Summit Farmers Markets 20th Anniversary Sunday Funday celebrations, Summit Downtown, Inc. hosted a Peach Dish Contest at the Summit Farmers Market on Aug. 2. All amateur cooks were invited to bring their best homemade dish featuring peaches to the market to be judged.
